The Boya comes in a branded box with a cinch sack, long wires and some Boya stickers. The Mac Mini instantly recognized the microphone and was ready to go. Attached is a video of a file recorded with the mic attached to my lapel. The audio quality is better than using a microphone positioned further away, however compared to a professional lavalier it is quite “Tubby” and does not sound natural to my ears. This is an unfair comparison because a professional mic costs eight times the amount. At this price point this Lavalier is a good value.

I connected these to a Cannon video camera and the sound was very good. In fact, so good that they picked up every sound in the room. I actually need a unidirectional (cardioid) microphone with phantom power for my installation, and these are omnidirectional.

I have used the BOYA while teaching online and it works well. The sound is good; it is clear and sounds natural. However, the BOYA is also powerful so it will pickup everything. So, I do have to use a background filter with the BOYA to keep everyone online from hearing me use my keyboard.

I also find that microphone placement is very important with the BOYA. For the best, most natural sounding sound, when I’m using the BOYA, I place it near the third button hole from the top of my shirt. That placement allows the BOYA to pick up the resonate tone that come from your chest. If you place the BOYA too close to your mouth, the sound produced will sound a bit thin and maybe nasal.

The more I use BOYA. equipment the more I like the company and its products.

  4. Dex VINE VOICE

Solid Construction ~ Very Clear Audio ~ Sensitivity Great ~ Noise Cancellation

    What I like:
The BOYA by-M1 Pro II Lavalier Microphone is made of very solid construction, provides very clear audio, and the sensitivity is great, as well.

    What I don’t like:
The foam windscreen could do a better job of filtering-out background noise, as well as unwanted voices in relatively close proximity to the primary speaker (orator). However, overall I am satisfied. I would consider ordering this item again.

SoundPro note: Foam windscreens are not designed to filter out background noise. To remove background noise you need to use a cardioid mic like this one

I have two single mikes and wanted this one with 2 mics connected to one cable to connect to my camera. I use them for interviewing. Easy to use as the singles I have. But the battery insertion is a little tricky and I had a heck of a time trying to get it back into the tubular receiving unit. They are little coin batteries fitting into a tiny space under spring tension. But all’s well that ends well and it ended well. The sound quality is excellent because it is wired and the electronics of the mic is superb. Boya is a good and trusted brand for me and an excellent value.
