The Boya BY-XM6-S6 is a compact, true-wireless microphone system, offering an easy-to-use and all-inclusive solution for recording two subjects to a mobile device with a USB Type-C port. The system delivers improved sound quality over the built-in mics on tablets and mobile devices to supply clear, intelligible speech for Court Reporters, Journalists, YouTube/Instagram creators, TikTok personalities, vloggers, and more.
The package includes two clip-on transmitters, each with a built-in omnidirectional microphone, letting you quickly and easily mic up your subjects for hands-free, on-camera demonstrations, presentations, interviews, and performances. The transmitters can be used with or without the lapel microphones.
The compact, dual-channel receiver offers a 328′ line-of-sight maximum operating range and plugs directly into the USB Type-C connector on your tablet or phone. A 3.5mm jack allows for headphone monitoring. The transmitter is powered for up to 7 hours by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, while the receiver is powered via the USB connector in your mobile device. The components arrive pre-paired at the factory—just power up, plug the receiver in, and you’re ready to go.
- The compact clip-on transmitters feature built-in microphones for a true-wireless solution for on-camera talent.
- The omnidirectional pickup patterns on the transmitter mics and the lav mics help to deliver consistent audio levels, even when the subjects turn away from the mic.
- The adjustable gain control on the transmitters allows you to optimize the inputs for speakers and performers with varying performance styles.
- OLED screens on the transmitters make it easy to see levels, along with battery, mute, and pairing statuses.

Good sound quality, easy to use, and a nice case comes with it. Great for making videos with your phone, great for recording a child playing or for a co worker wanting to demonstrate something like a management training video or whatever. I’d recommend these.

The BOYA is a nice wireless mic set. The entire kit is very compact and easy to place and/or conceal.
The case is very slim and the lid is secured by a latch that keeps your transmitters and receiver safe. The case keeps the units charged and is easy to charge as well with the included usb-c cable.
All three units feature a display that makes it very easy to monitor your connection and levels. The battery life on these units are very good for their size. The clip on the transmitter makes it very easy to connect it to your cameras hot shoe. Each unit has a clip that can be used to attach to a belt line or shirt and the lighter weight will not drag down a shirt collar.
The audio on these units is really good. The internal mics on the transmitter gives you acceptable audio. The kit comes with two lav mics that will give you better audio quality than the internal mics. The units have a good range on them. I was able to walk across my property without the audio cutting out, and only failing when I didn’t maintain line of sight at further distances.
Overall this is a nice kit that gives you all the necessary accessories you need to get good audio.

I received the BOYA system
It consists of 2 transmitters (BY-XM6 TX) and 1 receiver (BY-XM6 RXD).
The transmitters have a built-in mic (120dB SPL; and a sensitivity of -39 dB) and support an included wired Lavalier mic 3.5mm (110dB SPL; and a sensitivity of -39 dB) or other 3.5mm TRS mics.
The SNR is >84dB which is a good value. Everything above 80dB seems good to me.
My transmitters came 50% charged and when turned on they were already factory paired with the receiver, at least I did not have to initiate the pairing function. I charged the transmitters for further testing, but essentially, I was ready to go right from the start. No setup effort, and I kept all default settings.
My tests are not scientific measures, I just do my best to test and judge the abilities of the mic.
The operation distance is under optimal circumstances, meaning no obstacles, 328ft or 100m — I tested it and have reached approximately that distance on an open field. In my house I moved between rooms, into the garage and car, and out into the yard while the receiver stayed stationary at my desk.
The sound quality has never changed.
It is an omnidirectional mic and I tested it by talking into the top, bottom, and sides (meaning I rotated the mic while talking), and I couldn’t notice a difference.
The typical microphone test phrases delivered a good and clear outcome. Noise cancellation is good, meaning I still can hear e.g., my keyboard typing in the background and such noises (…sure it’s an omnidirectional mic), but overall, the voice sounds super clear and minor background noise like a radio is mitigated very well.
The receiver has a Mono/Stereo switch and while talking into the mic I switched the setting back and forth to hear the result later in the recording.
In MONO mode with just one transmitter or with two transmitters the sound is mixed into both channels equally.
In STEREO mode with just one transmitter the sound is recorded to 1 channel only — Actually, if using just one transmitter, you get just one channel and therefore you need 2 transmitters to record 2 channels (well, that sounds logical for professionals, but I wanted others to be aware of that as well). Stereo mode recording with just one transmitter gives the option to have the other channel available for post-production.
With 2 transmitters I can see pretty cool recording scenarios: e.g., in interviews the interviewer and the interviewee can go on one channel each. Or for wedding videography bride and groom get their own transmitter.
A ‘dead cat’ fur windshield can be attached to the transmitter’s built-in mic; a foam windshield can be attached to the Lavalier mic. The fur windshield was working very well during very windy conditions I encountered.
I couldn’t hear a difference in sound quality between the Lavalier mic and the built-in mic — I preferred the built-in mic transmitter, which comes with an integrated clip that can be attached to the clothing. Only if you need something less visible, I will go for the wired Lavalier mic. When touching the wire of the Lavalier mic it could result in some background noise, however, If the cable can be attached and protected well within the clothing, I don’t see a problem with it either.
The build quality of the transmitters and the receiver is great. The glossy look is nice, and the OLED display is well to read indoors and in shaded areas but outdoors in sunlight it is difficult– that’s my only criticism.
Another note regarding the display: the Muted Mic icon is visually a little bit hard to differentiate from ‘Not muted Mic’ because it is so small.
The system definitely makes a professional impression, offers a clear sound quality, and features like mono/stereo switch and a headphone 3.5mm jack on the receiver convinced me.
I would recommend this product to friends and colleagues.

The BOYA Wireless Lavalier Microphone System has a listed operating range of 100 meters, 7 hour battery life, and has type-C charging. The set that I received comes with 2x transmitter and 1x receiver and they operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency. There are several cables that are included, such as 3.5mm to 3.5mm, USB-A to USB-C, USB-C to USB-C, 3.5mm microphones, alligator clips and wind covers. The TX and RX have OLED displays that show battery life, signal strength and gain, etc.
To work with my Android phone I needed to buy a female 3.5mm to male USB-C adapter. I tested and used the TX and RX system for quite some time, getting mixed results. The good results were crystal clear from a few feet away to 75 feet away. The bad results included a constant noise to the audio. I couldn’t quite determine what it was. I settled on the fact that it must be the adapter mentioned above. So my assessment is on the good results I got. I used both the wired MIC extension and the TX unit directly, both with and without wind covers. The results were excellent and the sound quality very good.
This is not my primary MIC system due to the noise issue that’s been intermittent for me, but the system overall is very good based on my testing. I’d definitely recommend it. 4/5 stars.
A court reporter from Colorado –
I am a freelance reporter in Colorado and usually do several civil trials a year. I purchased two Boya wireless systems because I was worried about the batteries not lasting long enough with just one, and used both transmitters at the bench for bench conferences. First time EVER I could clearly hear the bench conferences!
I had an old Andrea Electronics microphone I used for backup recording into my software for depositions, but purchased a new “wired” mic anyway. The difference is huge, so I’m glad I replaced the old one!
I purchased the JUST MIC IV mixer so I could plug in the wired mic and ONE of the Boya systems (the second was charging and I would switch them out after lunch).
I muted the Boya system while proceedings were going on and muted the wired mic when there were bench conferences. I tried leaving both on at the same time because sometimes the judge was a bit quiet, but there was a bit of an echo. Didn’t really matter, though, because the audio was CLEAR and this courtroom was LARGE.
One of the other features I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED about the mixer is I had ear buds plugged into it, an ear bud in one ear, and I could turn up the volume, which enabled me to hear things that I could tell opposing counsel didn’t hear at times because I could see a little frown on their face and then they would look at the realtime.
SOOOO GLAD I MADE THIS PURCHASE!!!
