The SP-ATEN-1 Sound Professionals 1/8″ stereo attenuator cable (male to female) can be used as recording level control, variable attenuator cable or as headphone volume control.
To use as recording level control, plug the SP-ATEN-1 into the mic or line input of your recorder and your microphone into the SP-ATEN-1. Changing the level control will adjust the output of the microphone, just as changing the recording level on your recorder would. Note that even turned all the way to minimum attenuation (more signal passing through), the SP-ATEN-1 will slightly attenuate your mic signal by about -6dB. In the other direction, at maximum attenuation (less signal passing through), the signal will be cut off completely (infinite attenuation).
To use as variable attenuator cable, plug the SP-ATEN-1 into the mic or line input of your recorder and your microphone into the SP-ATEN-1. Changing the level control will adjust the output of the microphone, and will attenuate the signal accordingly. Note that even turned all the way to full, the SP-ATEN-1 will slightly attenuate your mic signal.
To use as headphone volume control, plug your headphone cable into the SP-ATEN-1 and the SP-ATEN-1 into your headphone jack of your amplifier. Note that even turned all the way to full, the SP-ATEN-1 will slightly attenuate your headphone signal.
This cable has 1/8″ female jack on one end and 1/8″ male plug on the other end. Both ends use gold plated connectors.

I needed a cable to attenuate the microphone input to my USB Mic adapter on my PC laptop computer…. This product fit like a glove and everything works fine now on my Yeasu Wires-X node here on Amateur Radio.
